Common questions
Which document formats can I add?
Nilad reads PDFs, common image formats and plain text. Export Pages and other package documents as PDFs before adding them. OCR recognises text in scanned PDFs and images; review the results against the original.
Can I search scanned PDFs without Apple Intelligence?
Yes. On-device OCR and text search work without Apple Intelligence. It must be enabled and available for automatic document classification and field suggestions. You can still edit details, add tags and search your library manually.
Which Macs does Nilad run on?
Requires macOS 26 or later and Apple Silicon. Automatic classification and field extraction require Apple Intelligence to be enabled and available. OCR and search work without it; documents may need manual review.
Do I have to move my files into Nilad?
No. In Settings → Library, choose whether new documents move into the library or stay exactly where they are — indexed in place, never moved or deleted by Nilad.
Nilad read something wrong.
Open the document and edit its type or fields. Your corrections help guide future suggestions, but extraction can still be wrong. Check Needs Review and compare important details with the original document.
Where is my library stored?
One package on your Mac — everything stays local. Settings → Library shows the exact location, opens it in Finder, and exports everything with one click.
How do I get my documents out?
Settings → Library → Export Everything exports searchable PDFs where available, or original files, together with CSV and JSON metadata. Export is always available without a purchase.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Use Settings → License → Manage Subscriptions in Nilad to open Apple’s subscription management. If it lapses, your library stays readable and exportable — only new drops pause.
